i was excited to be back in school, back on schedule and back into routine. after two weeks of school, i'm feeling a little overwhelmed. as soon as the kids get home we get hit with after school activities and homework. i find myself missing those lazy summer days. but i really do like the beginning of school and the start of fall (i just wish the weather was getting a little cooler)
we had our back to school feast the night before school started. this year i took grandpa neal's quote, "enduring well". we have a horn that ryan's best friend and business partner (nathan morris) had made for him. it is from a real bull horn and engraved with the words. then he also put some of his tribal (nathan is native american and is very involved in it) symbols on it. i love it and it is always on our fireplace mantel. that was our centerpiece. we talked about what the pioneers endured and what we endured today and how we react to tough situations. we also talked about others also endure things as well and that we should be aware of others trials and help them. then we watched the movie legacy. my kids loved it and neal has even asked to watch it again. throughout the year we are going to focus on pioneers and our ancestors. one of my previous relief society presidents had made books with her kids about their ancestors (they wrote the stories out and drew pictures and had them made into books) i would love to do that with my kids. i am also trying to convince my parents to have their family vacation in nauvoo next summer. i think it would be perfect!
andi started 3rd grade this year and was really excited to have so many friends in her class. she is still doing tennis with cohen once a week and does a little tap/ballet class with her cousin and some friends, she is also very excited to start activity days.
cohen started 1st grade with the same teacher andi had! he too has several friends in class and loves it. we have bumped cohen to tennis 3 times a week. he really likes playing tennis and didn't want to do any other sports. he is starting tournaments in november so i hope he doesnt change his mind! we were watching the US Open this week and he told me he wants to beat federer when he gets older. i'm glad he has high aspirations
neal started pre-k on wednesday. he is with the same teacher he had last year. for the week before he would cry and complain about going to preschool. he said he was not going to go! wednesday morning came and i was really dreading taking him to class. he complained a bit, but as soon as we got there he went in! he was really excited to pick from the treasure box for being so good that day. he is doing sports class again with some buddies right after preschool and we have a playgroup once a week. he also started soccer! in true neal fashion, he hates it. we have been to two practices and he won't do anything! i don't know why he has to fight me on everything!! but, he is my little buddy and is always the first one to tell me he loves me and that i am the best mommy. he always say,"you're the first best mommy" and we he is mad at me he says, "you're the last best mommy" he is such a crack up
