capitol hill

the day after jane's birthday ryan and i took off to washington dc for 5 days.  ryan was asked to speak at a legal ED conference and i always enjoy tagging along.  i absolutely love dc.  ryan and i lived right on capitol hill the summer we got married.  we have so many memories of that place.  i found a perfect hotel right on the hill that was only a block away from union station metro (the metro i took everyday to work).  the whole time we were there i got so excited to take our kids back.  i really want to take them next spring break.  we got in late wednesday night and just went to bed.

thursday morning we slept in (we rarely get to and we enjoy our sleep).  then we headed over to where the conference was going to be.  they had a rehearsal so we headed there to eat lunch and attend the meeting and rehearsal.  they had planned a dinner for everyone speaking in the conference.  i enjoyed talking and meeting new people.  when we got back to the hotel we walked up to the capitol and reminisced.  they are reinforcing the dome so they have construction all around it and makes it look fuzzy in pictures.

friday ryan got up early to attend the conference.  he wasn't speaking until the afternoon so i went to a couple of museums by myself and had some shake shack for lunch before heading over to see him.  it was so fun to watch him speak.  he is so good in front of people and is very handsome :) after the conference we went to 2 amy's for dinner.  it was seriously the best pizza.  they had a certificate from italy saying it was true italian pizza.  it was super busy but sooooo yummy.

saturday morning ryan's sister and brother in law drove up from williamsburg to spend the day with us!!  we walked to eastern market (and found the house we lived in on our way) to have the blue buck pancakes, bacon, chocolate chip pancakes, french toast and eggs benedict (i really research the food before traveling).  when we lived on capitol hill we used to go to eastern market on saturdays.  they have fun vendors set up and a farmers market.  after breakfast we headed over to the national mall.  we went to the national gallery of art and saw the only davinci painting in america.  we saw some other really amazing paintings too.  after the museum it was finally warm enough to rent some bikes.  we biked to all the monuments.  it is seriously the best way to see them.  we then headed back to the hotel to sit for a bit and freshen up.  then we headed to georgetown.  we used to go to georgetown on weekends for date night.  it is always hoppin'.  they have fun shops and places to eat.  we had heard a lot about good stuff eatery so we went there.  i personally think the burger at shake shack is better but the milkshake at good stuff was unbelievable. we walked around a bit and then headed back.

sunday we slept in, had breakfast and headed back to the airport.  it was such a fun quick trip.  it was cold and i was really hoping the cherry blossoms would be in bloom, but it was still too cold.  that's why i'm hoping to go spring break next year when the blossoms are in full bloom.
